About
I love the art and craft of software. I like to think and write about the philosophy of design and engineering from working at startups and building products.

I particularly appreciate the sweet spot in software where engineering and design meet. Things that look great and are built well are most appealing to me, and what I most enjoy building.
Career
Right now I'm an Engineer at Particl, an e-commerce data company. I worked at a music tech company called Q&A, and an open source software company called Gatsby before that. In the past I've been a web developer, graphic designer, and a janitor.
Technologies
I've hacked on a lot of different software tools and languages, here's how I'd score tools I'm familiar with based on a not so scientific combination of how much I like it, how much I think it's useful, or how productive I am with it:
Python
Ruby
TypeScript
SQL
Next.js
TanStack
React
Vue
FastAPI
Docker
Figma
imgflip
UX design
Memes
AWS
GCP
bash scripts
bash scripts (+ Claude Code)
Inspirations
I look up a lot of software engineers and thinkers, and in general try to live by a similar ethos to them. Here are a few I've written about, or found inspiration from:
Yukihiro (Matz) Matsumoto ⋅ Creator of Ruby Programming Language
His work on Ruby is incredibly inspiring. A language that prioritizes developer happiness seems like it is reflected in his own life with real devotion to his family.
David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH) ⋅ Creator of Ruby on Rails
Rails was one of the first frameworks that made me feel like I could build something real. DHH sticks to his principles and doesn't compromise on them, from Rails' omakase to his approach to work.
Roger Williams ⋅ Founder of Rhode Island
Roger Williams was radically free-thinking and ahead of his time, with controversial views like freedom of religion, separation of church and state, and inspired a lot of American virtues.
Clayton Christensen ⋅ Harvard Business School Professor
Clayton Christensen had killer business instincts, but perhaps more importantly a brain for prioritizing things that matter most.
Lawrence E. Corbridge ⋅ Lawyer & General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
His views on simplifying gospel principles taught by Jesus are so well said, I come back to talks of his frequently.
